The Toronto Raptors probably need to call a fire truck after getting torched by Luka Doncic on Sunday. The Los Angeles Lakers beat the Raptors, 131-125, at Crypto.com Arena.
Doncic was prolific as usual, with coach JJ Redick handing him the keys. Doncic carried the Lakers with another all-around performance, including brushing off a little scuffle with Scottie Barnes.
He went off for 45 points, 15 rebounds, six assists, and five steals. He went 12-of-23 from the field, including 8-of-12 from long range.
According to ClutchPoints’ Tomer Azarly, Doncic became the first player in league history to register those numbers.
The Lakers improved to 5-2, including 3-1 at home, while the Raptors fell to 3-3.
Austin Reaves had 19 points, three rebounds, and four assists, while Walker Kessler added 16 points, 15 rebounds, and three blocks. Collin Sexton tallied 14 points, three rebounds, and three assists off the bench.
The 27-year-old Doncic registered his 20th 40-point outing with the Lakers. He also achieved a rare milestone, according to the Associated Press’ Greg Beacham.
“Doncic produced at least 40 points, 10 rebounds and five steals for the second time with the Lakers, who haven’t had another player hit all of those marks in a game since the 1982-83 season,” wrote Beacham.
The six-time All-NBA and reigning scoring champion is averaging a league-leading 37.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 7.3 assists, and 1.8 steals. He is shooting 48.2% from the field, including 43.2% from three-point range.
He, however, will have to cut back on his errors, as he is averaging 5.5 turnovers.
The Purple and Gold will barely have time to rest before hosting the Miami Heat on Monday.
