Watching the Spurs this season could become more expensive for some fans, as the team moved its local media rights to streaming service DAZN.
The transition officially severs ties for the Silver and Black with its longtime home of FanDuel Sports Southwest, previously known as Bally Sports Southwest and Fox Sports Southwest, which announced it was ceasing operations after last season.
For the first time in several seasons, Spurs fans will no longer be able to access a majority of the team’s regular-season games through their cable bundle. Instead, fans will be required to turn to streaming for much of the 2026-27 season.
“You know, it’s the way everything’s gone. So I’m kind of accustomed to it,” Spurs fan Tim Kaine said.
DAZN offers two subscription tiers: the base includes all regular-season games not exclusive to national television, and its ultimate tier, which offers alternate streams and camera views. The total price for the season is $119.99 and $139.99, respectively.
In order to watch all the Spurs’ games this season, however, fans will have to subscribe to additional services.
The cost to watch every tipoff
The Spurs will play a league maximum of 34 games on national platforms during the 2026-27 season. The league also announced Thursday that five more games will air on NBA TV.
Twelve of those games will be on streaming platforms, and eight more will require either a cable subscription or subscribing to ESPN’s direct-to-consumer service.
If fans were to subscribe to all the services that will broadcast Spurs games this season for six months, the total cost would be just shy of $480.
You might save… by keeping your bundle
The Spurs will play two Peacock-exclusive games this season, but fans may not know that the games will also be available on NBC Sports Network.
As of right now, NBC Sports Network is only available on YouTube TV in San Antonio. However, if you are already a subscriber, you will not have to purchase another subscription along the way.
Watch the Spurs on your local station!
Thirty-six games this season will be available for free over-the-air on your local TV stations. KSAT 12 is proud to be the home of five Spurs games on ABC this season.
The Spurs said they will also offer 22 games over-the-air through a local broadcast partner to be announced at a later date.
Antennas are available for as cheap as $10 and provide access to dozens of local television channels. Click here for tips on how to set one up and recommendations on the right antenna for your home.
Churn baby, churn!
The Spurs will not play on each streaming service every month. Which means you can choose to subscribe when there is a game, then cancel when you no longer need the service.
This is what consumer experts call “churning,” and it can be an effective strategy to keep your costs low while you are not using a service.
If you are going to use the service consistently beyond the NBA season, you may opt to go the opposite route and pay for an annual subscription. Instead of paying month-to-month, many services will give you a discount if you pay for an entire year upfront.
Watch games with your fellow fans
Why not enjoy the gameday atmosphere without the gameday prices?
Many Spurs games are broadcast inside local sports bars and restaurants, where you can watch alongside friends and fellow fans.
KSAT 12 reached out to the Spurs regarding whether there will be a separate licensing subscription required for community businesses to show the games inside their establishment, but did not receive a response prior to publication.
Look for discounts
Many services will offer discounts for new subscribers, returning subscribers or even for those who subscribe through third-party cash back platforms, such as Rakuten, or in your bank’s mobile app.
Some services will also offer discounts for active-duty service members, veterans, first responders or students. Checking whether there is a discount available to you before you subscribe can save you money in the long run.
The Spurs, themselves, are offering a 20% discount to season ticket holders for their annual subscription. Additional discounts and promotions will be available throughout the season, DAZN said, with a 7-day free trial available at the beginning of the season.
You can also receive a discount for the Spurs’ new streaming service by signing up for the Official Spurs Fan Club before Sept. 9.
DAZN has not yet launched the new service, but has more information available on its website.
