Several organizations in San Antonio are hosting free back-to-school supply giveaways as the new school year approaches.
Several of the events are on a first-come, first-served basis, so arriving early is recommended.
Check out this list of where you can find free resources in the San Antonio area:
- Amazing Church Texas: The annual back-to-school event will take place starting at 10 a.m. on Aug. 1 at 5407 Bandera Road. The event feature free backpacks with school supplies and hair braiding on a first-come, first-served basis.
- BiblioTech and Bexar County Commissioner Justin Rodriguez: The third-annual Back to School Bash will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 1 at the BiblioTech EDU, 626 N. Flores St. The family-friendly event will feature 200 free bags of school supplies, free immunizations and more. Click here for more details.
- CentroMed: Parents who schedule a well-child appointment at CentroMed will receive a free backpack with school supplies for their child while supplies last. The offer runs through Aug. 14. Click here for more details.
- Harlandale ISD: The annual Back to School Bash event will take place from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on July 30 at the Morrill Center, 5200 South Flores St. The district will away about 1,000 clear and mesh backpacks on a first-come, first-served basis. The event will also feature free and low-cost services, including immunizations, athletics physical, supplies, haircuts and resources.
- JBSA Youth Programs Back to School Supply Bash: JBSA Youth Programs will host free back-to-school supply giveaways at Fort Sam Houston and Randolph from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. July 31 and at Lackland from 10 a.m. to noon on Aug. 1. Children must be present to receive a bag of supplies sorted by grade level, and free games and activities will also be available.
- Judson ISD Block Party: The district’s block party will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on July 28 at Judson High School. The event will feature free school supplies, free hot dogs and more. For more information, click here.
- IDEA Hidden Meadow: The Backpacks for Bright Futures event will take place from noon to 2 p.m. on July 31 at 10138 Culebra Road. Students must be present to receive a backpack. No reservations are needed, but supplies are available on a first-come, first-served basis. More information can be found here.
- Pica Pica Plaza’s Back 2 School: The market will host its annual “Back 2 School” giveaway from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on July 29. Children must be present to receive a free backpack and must have a wristband. The wristbands will be given out at 9:30 a.m. The event is on a first-come, first-served basis. A health and community resources event will also take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. More details can be found here.
- San Antonio Parks and Recreation: The Back to School Splash Bash will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 1 at Monterrey Park Pool, 5959 W. Commerce St. Children can play games to win a backpack full of school supplies. Appropriate swimwear is required. Click here for more information.
- Westside Family YMCA Back to School Bash: The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 31 at 2900 Ruiz St. The back to school bash will feature free school supplies while supplies last, vendors and community resources. Children must be present at the event to receive the supplies.
