Bexar County sheriff to provide details on gambling bust, online solicitation of a minor

A 32-year-old man is accused of committing a sex crime on what he believed was three underage girls — the Bexar County Sheriff said they were all undercover operators.

He was arrested and is facing an online solicitation of a minor charge, a second-degree felony.

His identity is unknown and has not been booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center at the time of this posting.

A BCSO deputy, posed as a 16-year-old girl, was in communication with the 32-year-old man through a online anonymous texting app, Sheriff Javier Salazar said in a press conference on Friday. He allegedly made inappropriate requests and acts to the posed girl through messages.

The Secret Service worked alongside BCSO in this operation and Salazar said the service was already familiar with the man from a prior sting operation attempt in April.

The operation fell flat because he stopped talking to the undercover detective and didn’t meet up with the underage child, according to Salazar.

Despite dodging the operation, the man planned to meet up with the 16-year-old girl at a restaurant in the 10700 block of Protranco Road, Salazar said, and was arrested by a SWAT team at the scene.

Salazar confirmed other agencies were conducting separate, similar operations on the same 32-year-old man.

“Three different instances where he thinks he’s talking to three different underage girls, when in reality he’s talking to three undercover operatives,” Salazar said.

The man had a connection to the military, according to Salazar.

“He’s some kind of contractor that had been doing some work at Lackland (Air Force Base),” Salazar said. He doesn’t believe any actions related to the crime were committed on base.

The sheriff also spoke about yesterday’s gambling operation that was reported by KSAT this morning.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
