Rafael Leão’s second-half equaliser salvaged a point for AC Milan in a hard-fought 1-1 draw against a resilient Como side at Optus Stadium.

The Serie A clash, held in Perth, saw second-placed Milan unable to break down a determined Como, who sit comfortably in sixth. The draw prevents Milan from gaining ground at the top of the table. Como, meanwhile, showcased their defensive strength and counter-attacking threat.

The first half began with a cautious approach from both teams. Milan enjoyed more possession but struggled to create clear-cut opportunities against Como’s organised defence. The game settled into a midfield battle.

Como found their breakthrough in the 32nd minute. Nico Paz capitalised on a lapse in the Milan defence, firing home to give the visitors a surprise lead. The goal silenced the travelling Milan support in Perth.

Milan pressed for an immediate response, but Como goalkeeper Jean Butez was rarely troubled. The Rossoneri struggled to convert their territorial advantage into genuine chances before the break. Como defended their lead well.

At half-time, Milan manager Stefano Pioli needed to inspire his side to find an equalizer. Como, under their manager, aimed to maintain their defensive shape and perhaps extend their lead on the counter-attack in the second half.

The second period saw Milan introduce Sasa Pavlovic at the restart, seeking more attacking impetus. The game’s intensity grew, with several yellow cards issued as both teams battled for control. Paz received a yellow in the 53rd minute for Como.

Milan’s persistence finally paid off in the 64th minute. Rafael Leão, often Milan’s brightest spark, slotted home an equalizer. Ardon Jashari provided the assist, threading a pass through Como’s defence for Leão to finish.

Tempers flared shortly after the goal. Leão and Como’s J. Ramon both received yellow cards for unsportsmanlike conduct in the 68th minute. Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri then received a red card in the 80th minute, adding to the drama.

Despite the man disadvantage for the coaching staff, Milan pushed for a winner. Como, however, held firm, thwarting late attempts as goalkeeper Jean Butez made crucial saves. The visitors defended valiantly to preserve the draw.

Statistical analysis highlights Como’s effectiveness despite less possession. Their expected goals (xG) of 1.45 significantly surpassed Milan’s 0.76, indicating better quality chances. Como registered 10 total shots, with four on target, matching Milan’s four successful attempts from six total shots, while both goalkeepers made three saves.

This result sees AC Milan drop two crucial points in their pursuit of the Serie A title, remaining second in the league standings. Como continues its impressive campaign, solidifying its position among the top half of the table with a commendable away point.
