Open Thread: Spurs Hype Squad audition process kicks off today
Dancers, breakdancers and stunters invited to audition for Spurs Entertainment Team
Per a Spurs press release:
The San Antonio Spurs announced that the audition process for qualified performers to join the Spurs Hype Squad will open on Saturday, June 1 at 9 a.m. Registration for the 2024-25 season will be open through Thursday, June 20, followed by multiple online and in-person rounds. Interested applicants can find full details and apply at Spurs.com/Hype-Squad beginning on June 1.
The Spurs are looking for dancers, breakdancers, tumblers and stunters for their Hype Squad, but there is more to the position. The Hype Squad are ambassadors for the Spurs brand whose role includes fan engagement.
Applicants will be judged on energy and engagement, skills, individual talent, athleticism and embodiment of the Spurs team values. The audition process will take place virtually and in-person:
- June 1 – 20: Online registration period
- June 21 – 23: Choreography will be assigned and applicants asked to submit video online
- July 12 – 14: Invite-only final round, conducted in-person
From their high-energy routines at home games to their community engagement, the Hype Squad is a huge facet of the Spurs experience.
The Spurs Hype Squad values diversity in skills and talents and approaches their team structure with those values in mind. Since their founding in 2018, the Spurs Hype Squad has made four international appearances in Mexico City, Dominican Republic, Brazil and Taiwan and has grown their brand through community outreach and social media campaigns. The 2024-25 season will be the Hype Squad’s seventh season as the entertainment team of the San Antonio Spurs.
