Why Newcastle’s deal for Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard is on verge of collapse

Newcastle look to have been dealt yet another transfer blow on Tuesday evening.

This time, the Magpies’ reported pursuit of Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard appears to be over.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Lingard’s proposed move to Newcastle is on the verge of collapse.

The reason for this is that Manchester United were asking for a sizable loan fee that Newcastle deemed unacceptable.

Elsewhere, Tottenham, West Ham and Everton have seen approaches rejected. But despite this, Ralf Rangnick is said to have given his blessing for Lingard to depart Manchester United.

It is added that Newcastle will now reluctantly switch their attention to alternative targets before the transfer window closes next Monday:

Newcastle running out of time

Newcastle, though, are seemingly running out of time and need to get at least one more player in during the next week, you would assume.

The Magpies have signed Chris Wood from Burnley and Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid. And whilst both are decent options, the duo are unlikely to keep the North East outfit from escaping the drop on their own.

Newcastle, however, are seemingly having a tough time bringing in players this month.

Before news of the Lingard deal breaking down broke, 101  covered reports that claimed Sevilla have decided that they will not be letting Newcastle target Diego Carlos leave the club this month, whilst Atalanta are understood to have turned down a Newcastle bid for Duvan Zapata.
