What Aston Villa’s attack could look like after confirming Emi Buendia signing

Villa confirm Buendia

Aston Villa have announced the signing of Emi Buendia on a permanent deal from Norwich City.

Villa confirmed the news on their website, however quotes from Buendia were not available. The Argentine is away on international duty and seemingly unable to partake in any interview at present.

Aston Villa and Norwich City have reached an agreement for the transfer of Emiliano Buendia.

As Emiliano is currently in the Argentina national team’s biosecure bubble, preparing for a World Cup qualifying match with Colombia on Tuesday evening, he will undergo a medical and complete the transfer after the game.

It is expected that the fee could rise to as much as £40 million including bonuses.

What could the Villa attack look like?

With Buendia added to an improving Villa team, the possibilities of what the attack could look like are interesting.

Jack Grealish is the talisman of the side and the England international’s future is still uncertain. Clubs such as City are interested but should he stay, the front line could be one of the league’s standouts.

Ollie Watkins joined in the summer of 2020 and has transitioned well to the Premier League. His performances earned him a call-up to the preliminary squad for the Euros this summer also.

On the other flank, Bertrand Traore was signed from Lyon but is arguably the weakest link of the group.

Buendia’s versatility to play as either a number 10 or out wide on the right means he could replace Traore. Morgan Sanson joined from Marseille in January and it is possible for him to be moved into a more advanced central midfield role.

With Douglas Luiz then partnering another player linked with a move to Villa Park, James Ward-Prowse.

Suddenly the service and the firepower look very strong and Dean Smith will be aiming Villa to fight for a top 7 finish and the hope of European football.
