“We’re back,” a graphic touts the April 9-11 event.

Ticket information will be available online “soon,” the website says.

Last year marked the first cancellation in the festival’s 71-year-old history. Other headliner events, like San Antonio’s Fiesta and Wurstfest in New Braunfels, also endured a rare cancellation. There is no word on whether those parties will return in 2021.

Usually, Poteet brings in hoards of people to the festival grounds off State Highway 16 about 40 minutes from San Antonio for acres of live entertainment, carnival rides and of course, a variety of snacks centering on fresh strawberries.

Facebook users had varied reactions to the news.

“Pandemic is at the highest rates and numbers and you’re really expecting festivals to happen within a few months after this has been going on a year? That’s unrealistic,” one person said.

Atascosa, which encompasses Poteet, currently has 348 COVID-19 cases. The Poteet Strawberry Fesitval grounds served as a test collection site.
