Watch: Jaguars comically fumble away attempted reverse vs. Titans

The Jacksonville Jaguars tried to catch the Tennessee Titans off guard in the battle for the AFC South on Saturday night, but the gamble backfired.

Early in the second quarter, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson decided to dig into his bag of tricks.

Though, unlike the “Philly Special,” the results weren’t nearly as positive this time.

Trailing the Titans 3-0 with 9:30 left in the second quarter, the Jaguars attempted a reverse to open things up.

After a fake handoff to running back Travis Etienne, quarterback Trevor Lawrence rolled to his right, pitching the ball toward Jamal Agnew and Christian Kirk, who were heading in opposite directions.

Both receivers had their hands out, but the football bounced off the top of Agnew’s hands and onto the turf.

Tennessee’s Rashad Weaver recovered the fumble, giving the Titans’ offense a chance at extending the lead.

Seven plays later, Titans quarterback Joshua Dobbs found Chrigoziem Okonkwo on a 21-yard touchdown pass to give the Titans a 10-0 advantage.

Everyone loves trick plays, and sometimes, as Pederson has proven in the past, they can pay major dividends.

However, it probably wasn’t worth the risk in a battle of two teams hovering around .500 with the division title on the line.

If the Jaguars are watching the playoffs from home next week, the ill-fated reverse might haunt the team all off-season long.
