Vikings have reportedly reached out to Houston about WR Brandin Cooks

The Houston Texans are fielding calls for speedy receiver Brandin Cooks, and the Minnesota Vikings are one of a handful of teams to inquire about the 29-year-old wideout.

The reported asking price for Cooks is a second-round pick.

Minnesota’s passing game has lacked a vertical threat outside of Justin Jefferson, who has seven of the team’s eight receptions of 20 or more yards this season.

Cooks leads the Texans in receptions (32), targets (51), and receiving yards (354), and he’s caught five of his eight targets of 20 or more yards this year for 153 yards and a touchdown.

His 30.6 yards per reception on deep routes would give Minnesota two wideouts averaging more than 30 yards per catch on deep routes (Jefferson averages 36.1), and his 11.1 yards per reception would be good for second-best on the Vikings behind Jefferson’s 14.5.

Aside from the added element of a vertical threat, Cooks has had 1,000-yard seasons in six of the last seven years with four different teams, including 80-catch seasons in three of the last four years.

Cooks’ addition would give Minnesota three wideouts with two or more 1,000-yard receiving seasons.
