SAN ANTONIO – A man killed in one of two deadly Christmas Eve accidents that police said were caused by the same alleged drunken driver was identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.

David Alaquinez, 23, was driving east in the 10500 block of Southeast Loop 410 at about 2:45 a.m. when a vehicle driving the wrong way approached him head on, investigators said.

Alaquinez managed to avoid the wrong-way driver, identified as 26-year-old Alejandro Montoya Rodriguez, but then drove underneath an 18-wheeler, San Antonio police said.

Alaquinez was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS at 304 a.m., investigators said.

Rodriguez continued driving the wrong way and hit another vehicle head minutes later in the 10700 block of Southeast Loop 410.

Jay Simon Mejia, 33, died in the secondsHe was pronounced dead at 3:07 a.m., a report states. 

His vehicle had rolled onto its side and stopped in a grassy median between the access road and highway, police said.

Rodriguez and his passenger managed to get out of their vehicle before it caught fire. They were taken to University Hospital in unknown conditions.

Police said Rodriguez was booked by proxy with bail totaling $200,000.

No bonds had been posted for Rodriguez as of Saturday. wheeler, San Antonio police said.rfudd
