VIA job fair to offer $4K hiring bonuses for drivers, $6K for mechanics

The wheels on VIA Metropolitan Transit’s buses are turning as it looks to hire new drivers at an upcoming job fair. The transportation agency is offering to start drivers at a rate of nearly $21 per hour and is tossing in a hiring bonus up to $4,000 to sweeten the deal, according to a VIA Metropolitan Transit press release.
In addition to the open positions for bus drivers and paratransit van operators, VIA is also looking to hire mechanics, who will start at a rate of $23.07 an hour, along with a monetary incentive of up to $6,000, according to the release. The mass transit agency is also giving employees a chance at participating in a referral program, which will allow successful driving, mechanic, and shop attendant new hires to earn $1,000.
There is no experience necessary to apply for one of the many open driver positions with VIA Metropolitan Transit, which offers paid training for new hires with classes taking place weekly, according to the release. Some uniform and tool expenses will also be provided along with a generous employee benefits package for those who want to join the agency with over 2,000 employees offering service to the San Antonio community.
VIA Metropolitan Transit will host the hiring fair to fill the open positions on Friday, March 31, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the VIA Metro Center located at 1021 San Pedro Ave. For a list of all the open positions or to submit an application, visit the VIA website.
