Tony Parker and Pau Gasol breaking individual records…together

Two of the greatest players work together against the Pacers

Currently, Tony Parker is 21st all-time for assists in the NBA. When he passed Kevin Johnson last Monday against the Hawks in Atlanta, Parker only needed 15 more assists to pass Muggsy Bogues for the #20 spot all time. Since then, Parker has added 2 more assists against the Nets, 4 against the Raptors, and 5 tonight coming off the bench against the Indiana Pacers.

Tonight, all five of his assists went to Pau Gasol who coincidentally came into tonight’s game needing 21 points to pass Mitch Richmond for 39th place in all-time scoring in the NBA. Gasol got 14 points closer to moving up with the 10 points from Tony’s assists.

Great teamwork? Amazing connection between two future hall of famers? Or a little mutual stat-padding by two men in the twilight of their respective careers? We know the truth, but it’s important to focus on the highlights after an ugly loss at home.
