Timo Werner is ‘having English lessons’ and ‘excited about playing in the Premier League’

Timo Werner looks to be edging closer to a move to the Premier League with reports claiming the Chelsea and Liverpool target is undergoing English lessons.

The German speedster has continued his rise to Europe’s striking elite this season, firing in 21 goals in 25 Bundesliga games as the driving force behind Leipzig’s title challenge.

Werner has long been monitored by top clubs after firing in 21 goals in 31 league games in 2016-17, and now at 24-years-old could be set for his big move.

The 24-year-old is contracted at the Red Bull Arena until 2023 but continues to be heavily linked with a move to the English top flight.

And Bleacher Report say he is excited about the prospect of playing in the Premier League and has begun learning the language.

This news will come as a blow to Barcelona and Bayern Munich, who are both interested in signing the forward in the summer.

Werner has previously hinted that he fancies a move to Merseyside, saying: ‘They have Jurgen Klopp, the best coach in the world, who is German. There are a lot of things that would suggest that my playing style might be a good fit.’

Werner’s stellar season and Julien Nagelsmann’s side’s challenge has been interrupted by the coronavirus, with sport still on shutdown in Germany.

German football chiefs are desperate to restart the season to curb a financial crisis in the top two divisions, but the threat of 2019-20 being cancelled still hangs in the air.
