The Spurs’ veterans led the way in a fourth quarter blitzing of the Trail Blazers

Most of the Spurs’ success this season has stemmed from the youngsters’ immediate impact on the court, but the veteran quartet of LaMarcus Aldridge, DeMar DeRozan, Patty Mills, and Rudy Gay propelled the good guys past the Trail Blazers in their first blowout win of the season, largely behind a 38-22 fourth quarter.

Aldridge led the team with 22 points on 10 for 17 shooting, DeRozan put up a double-double with 20 points while handing out 11 assists, Patty Mills resumed his hot shooting from downtown with 21 points on 5 for 7 from three, and Rudy Gay did his share of sniping from long distance with 21 points on 5 for 8 from three as well — almost entirely in that dominant fourth quarter.

Nine players logged 20+ minutes, six players scored in double digits, and DeRozan and Dejounte Murray had double digit dimes (Murray also handed out 11 assists) to help spread the love around. This win was a complete team effort for sure, and hopefully the Spurs can keep focus and effort going forward.

Gay is 34 years young so I understand his sentiment that you’re only as old as you feel. And if he feels like swishing 5 three-pointers per game for the rest of the season, please do so, young sir:

That being said, 20-year-old rookie Devin Vassell blocked Enes Kanter’s putback attempt like a Zoomer blocking their parents on TikTok:

Dancing is a fine art, and there was no finer tango than Patty Mills’s waltz around the Trail Blazers’ defense to find his dance partner, an open Jakob Poeltl, under the basket:

Of DeMar DeRozan 11 dimes, this one may have been his best as he dished a peanut butter and Poeltl jam sandwich to his favorite Austrian center:

What goes up must come down. DeRozan made it look easy as he ooped this ally to Keldon Johnson:

Here’s hoping everyone had a nice afternoon watching our favorite team and remembering all that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stood for:
