The man who committed suicide off the Vessel in Hudson Yards earlier this week was a suspect in the stabbing death of his mother in San Antonio, according to reports from New York City media.

The New York Times reported the death as the third suicide in a recent weeks from the 150-foot sculpture.

In an email sent to MySA.com on Wednesday, the New York Police Department identified the man as Franklin Washington, a 21-year-old San Antonio resident. Officials said the man was found unresponsive “with injuries consistent with a fall from an elevated height” and was pronounced dead at the popular tourist attraction on Monday.

The New York Daily News reported Washington was a suspect in the stabbing death of his mother in San Antonio.

Neither NYPD nor SAPD were immediately available to comment on the allegation. Local officials did confirm Washington’s mother as the 55-year-old victim of a Jan. 8 homicide. According to preliminary details shared by SAPD, officers responding to a welfare check just after 2:30 p.m. at an apartment at 7678 U.S. Highway 90 found a lifeless woman upon entry. The homicide victim had “apparent trauma,” according to the report.

SAPD said no arrests have been made and no warrants have been issued in the active investigation.

Washington’s death prompted an indefinite closure of the Vessel, according to multiple reports out of New York City.
