Spurs select Colorado shooting guard Derrick White with the 29th pick

A pick that could help enable the trade of Danny Green

The San Antonio Spurs have selected University of Colorado shooting guard Derrick White with the 29th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.

The 23-year-old White was widely considered as one of the top collegiate seniors in this year’s draft. In 34 games with the Buffaloes last season, White averaged 18.1 points, 4.4 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per contest. He was extremely efficient offensively, shooting 51% from the floor, which included a 57% mark from two and a 40% clip from beyond the three point line.

With the Spurs both drafting White and reportedly extending a qualifying offer to Jonathon Simmons, one would have to wonder if a Danny Green trade is the next shoe to drop. The Spurs have been shopping Green around the league in various trade discussions in the days leading up to the draft, and he now looks increasingly expendable given the selection of White.
