Spurs Legend Tony Parker announces his retirement

Merci Tony!

After mulling the decision for a few weeks, Spurs legend, 4-time champion, and all-time great point guard Tony Parker has officially announced his retirement.

In a sit-down interview with Mark Spears of The Undefeated in a San Antonio hotel room, Tony announced his decision, which is mostly centered around the fact that he just doesn’t feel like himself anymore.

“A lot of different stuff ultimately led me to this decision, but, at the end of the day, I was like, if I can’t be Tony Parker anymore and I can’t play for a championship, I don’t want to play basketball anymore.”

He also discussed a multitude of other topics, including his career, his final season in the NBA with the Hornets, how he revealed the news to Gregg Popovich and his fellow Big Three (and retired) teammates Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili, what San Antonio and the Spurs mean to him, and much more. You can check out his entire interview by clicking here.

We will have much more on what all Parker meant to the Spurs organization, but for now all we can do is thank him for everything he has done for the city of San Antonio. He says he plans on continuing to live here, and while he doesn’t mention any coaching aspirations in the interview, there is one seat open next to Pop at the moment, and possibly another yet to come. It’s quite possible he’s ready for a year off after over 20 years of playing professional ball, but if nothing else I’m sure the Spurs will at least mention it to him.

In the meantime, we can start looking forward to another jersey retirement ceremony next season, when the Big Three will officially be immortalized in Spurs lore forever.

Merci Tony!!!
