Spurs fan starts petition to get Josh Primo more playing time

After his controversial selection at 12th overall by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2021 NBA Draft, rookie Josh Primo has gone from loathed to loved more quickly than anyone could have imagined, and all it took was one exciting performance in garbage time of the preseason.

Since their preseason-opening win against the Utah Jazz, Spurs fans have been chanting his name at games in hopes of getting a glimpse at the youngest player ever drafted to have also attended college. They got a quick one when he entered late in their season opening victory against the Orlando Magic and promptly hit a three. . .

. . . but now fans are taking things to another level. Someone called Clan the Spurs Fan has started a petition on Change.org titled “Play Joshua Primo! PLEASE,” with the goal laid out accordingly:

I am CLAN the SPURS fan and I am creating this petition for the Spurs to play the up-and-coming Joshua “Primonition” Primo! He is a phenomenal talent and it is time to give the 18-year-old more minutes. For the love of God, we do not want to see him in the G-League! We want to see him on court crossing over LeBron James and other superstars, while simultaneously winning us more rings. However, this will not be possible if the young star does not get more than 2.7 minutes a game! So, please play the kid. The fans are READY!

As of this posting, the petition has 107 of it’s goal of 200 signatures. Of course, we all know it will take a lot more than 200 fans to convince Gregg Popovich to play his rookie much outside of garbage time, and odds are he will still end up in Austin for much of the season. On the bright side, the Austin Spurs can be watched too, and Primo just might bring the most eyes to the G League Spurs since Lonnie Walker.

So just in case Primo doesn’t get more playing time with the San Antonio Spurs, be sure to check out their Autsin affiliate to truly see what he can do. But you can also go sign the petition, just in case.
