Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich said there’s no timetable for Tim Duncan’s return

SAN ANTONIO — Tim Duncan will miss his second consecutive game because of right knee soreness when the Spurs host the Houston Rockets on Wednesday.

Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich said Duncan underwent an MRI, and has been both actively rehabilitating his knee and trying to rest it.

When asked if the MRI revealed anything concerning, Popovich joked that he’s doesn’t have the medical knowledge to make that assessment.

“They’re rehabbing him and doing what they do,” Popovich said. “Unlike you, I’m not the doc, they just tell me when he’s ready to go.”

Popovich said he doesn’t know when the 39-year-old power forward will return to play. Duncan also missed Monday’s 120-90 loss to the Golden State Warriors.

“I don’t do timetables,” Popovich said. “They never work. When he’s ready, he’s ready.”

Popovich said he hadn’t decided yet whether David West would start in place of Duncan against the Rockets.

“I don’t know yet,” Popovich said. “I don’t know who they’re starting. They’ve been going small a lot, so I want to see what’s appropriate.”
