Spanish international Oyarzabal the latest attacker tipped for West Ham

An update on West Ham’s search for attacking reinforcements has been forthcoming on Tuesday, amid claims of interest in Real Sociedad star Mikel Oyarzabal.

Haller departs

A major talking point at the London Stadium over the last couple of weeks has of course surrounded David Moyes’ options up top.

This comes with club-record signing Sebastien Haller, on the back of an altogether underwhelming 18 months, having opted to bring his West Ham stint to an end.

The Ivorian international swapped the English capital for Dutch champions Ajax, in a £20 million deal:

Haller’s exit, though, has since left a gaping hole in West Ham’s frontline. The 26-year-old, despite his widely publicised struggles for form, was nevertheless handed starts in 10 of the 17 Premier League outings for which he was available this season.

The Hammers, in turn, have already been tipped to swoop for a whole host of attackers, amongst them the likes of Eddie Nketiah, Adam Hlozek and Josh King.

To this point, however, evidently, no move has yet come to fruition.

If the latest word stemming from the English media on Tuesday is to be believed, however, then those in a position of power at the London Stadium have not yet thrown in the towel when it comes to their efforts to land a new attacker.

As per a report from talkSPORT, citing the outlet’s ‘transfer guru Alex Crook’, the Irons’ latest target comes in the form of Real Sociedad’s Mikel Oyarzabal.

Spanish international Oyarzabal, who can line out either on the wing or in a more central role, actually has previous experience of playing under David Moyes, during the latter’s brief spell at the Anoeta Stadium.

And the Scot is now seemingly keen on a reunion, with it explained:

‘They (West Ham) have been linked to a number of strikers having sold Sebastien Haller in the transfer window.’

‘Four or five players have been scouted and I know they have had an offer for Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri rejected and have also spoken to Reims about Boulaye Dia.’

‘Josh King is another player who David Moyes still rates very highly, but his wages demands are too excessive at this stage.’

‘A new name in the frame that I’m hearing today is Mikel Oyarzabal, who played under David Moyes at Real Sociedad.’

‘He’s 23 years old. A Spaniard, who’s scored 50 goals for Sociedad.’

‘He can play outside so would suit that system with Antonio very much the man up front.’
