Sony says PS5 is “our biggest console launch ever”

No, they’re not talking about the size of it.

Sony has said PlayStation 5 is “our biggest console launch ever” – but it failed to announce a sales figure.

So, what does “our biggest console launch ever” actually mean? It means the PS5 had the biggest console launch ever of any console because the previous record holder was the PlayStation 4.

(In early December 2013, Sony announced 2.1m PS4s had been sold globally after going on sale on 15th November that year.)

Are the PS5 and Xbox Series X too buggy at launch?

Sony said demand for PS5 is “unprecedented”, but more stock will hit shops before the end of 2020.

The comment comes as Sony has come under pressure to address widely criticised PS5 scalping. One scalper ring claimed to have worked together to amass a haul of nearly 2500 PS5s when the console went on sale in the UK last week, on top of “just under 1000” PS5 pre-orders placed back in September.
