Spoetzl Brewery, home of Shiner Bock beer, is contributing half a million dollars to the TX Restaurant Relief Fund

The 111-year-old brewery in Shiner, Texas announced the $500,000 donation to the fund established by the Texas Restaurant Association in a news release on Friday. The fund is intended to provide immediate relief to independent restaurants and their employees in the state that have been impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak.

Restaurants may receive grants of up to $5,000 to keep the businesses running and employees working, the release says.

“All of us have been affected by COVID-19. As of today, our brewery is fortunate to continue brewing with enhanced health and safety measures,” said Jimmy Mauric, the company’s Brewmaster. “But we are saddened to know that restaurants and bars throughout Texas — that are independent like us — are in distress. We hope that our collective fundraising efforts will help them respond to the challenges that they’re facing.”

Schiner is asking social media fans to add to the fund by texting “ShineOnTX” to 31996 and post an online toast to those affected in the restaurant, food service or hospitality industry by using the hashtag #ShineOnTexas. Donations will contribute to the fund’s goal of $1o million.

Acceptance of grant applications has temporarily stopped until pledges have been received and grants can be given to restaurants that have already asked for help, according to the fund’s website. The fund is planning on reopening this online application portal around April 25.
