Sergio Aguero left out of Manchester City squad versus Burnley due ‘little disturbance on his knee’

Sergio Aguero has been left out of the Manchester City squad to face Burnley due to a knee problem.

The striker, who has endured much misfortune with injuries, wasn’t deemed fit enough to take part in the clash against Sean Dyche’s side.

‘He’s not ready,’ Guardiola told the club’s website. ‘He needs to train and this morning he had a little disturbance in his knee.’

Guardiola added that Aguero is ‘not 100 per cent’ following the death of his former father-in-law Diego Maradona.

Maradona was Aguero’s former father-in-law following his marriage to Gianinna, his youngest daughter, and was grandfather to the City striker’s 11-year-old son, Benjamin.

Speaking ahead of the Burnley game, Guardiola admitted that City’s 1-0 win against Olympiacos, in which Aguero featured as a substitute, was a difficult occasion for the forward, who was in action on the same day that Maradona died.

Guardiola said: ‘It’s difficult for me to talk about his feelings. The game against Olympiacos was hard.

‘Especially for his son, it’s tough. He knew Maradona well and his son, it’s his grandfather. It’s a sad situation for his family, but he’s OK.’

Aguero has been restricted to just two Premier League appearances so far this season, with knee and hamstring injuries restricting his playing time.

With Aguero out, Gabriel Jesus started up front for City at home to Burnley.

Nathan Ake is the only other City player currently out injured, with the defender sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Aymeric Laporte and Oleksandr Zinchenko were both rested for the game against Burnley.

Last season Aguero played just 24 times in the Premier League. The 32-year-old is into the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium.
