Season Outlook: “Randy Gregory is going to make All-Pro”

OXANRD, Calif. – Two days into the Dallas Cowboys 2021 training camp and many have already begun to calculate how the team can fit defensive end Randy Gregory under the salary cap next season.

Gregory is slated to make a little over a million dollars this upcoming season, but his early performance in training camp is increasing that number quickly.

“Randy Gregory is as good a football player as this team has,” says Phillip Tanner, the former Cowboys player and coach, in an interview with CowboysSI.com on the eve of training camp here in Oxnard. “He’s going to make All-Pro.”

Gregory sat out the first six games of the 2020 season due to suspension, but then flashed those moments of elite skill in their rare occasions he was allowed to play.

He played in less than 25% of the Cowboys’ defensive snaps in 2020 and finished with 3.5 sacks. In his last 24 games he ha he has two less sacks (9.5) than DeMarcus Lawrence has in his last 36 games (11.5).

With not much reliable depth at the defensive end position this year, all bets are on Gregory to be offered majority of the snaps opposite of Lawrence.

One staffer told 105.3 The Fan that they simply “can’t block him.”

At 6’5, 255 pounds, Gregory has transitioned his body from the lanky 230-pound build he entered training camp with as a rookie.

In fact, this marks his first full training camp since his rookie campaign and his first full offseason since 2018.

Beat writer Rob Phillips of DallasCowboy.com said he has seen rare elite bend from Gregory during this training camp that, at times, surpasses the Hall of Fame pass rusher DeMarcus Lawrence.

Gregory has 10.5 career sacks and is possibly set to match his career total in this season alone.
