Sean McVay Is Already Making Rams Franchise History
Sean McVay is 35 years old and is already one of the most successful head coaches in Los Angeles Rams history.
Yes, that is true following Monday’s win over the Arizona Cardinals.
The Rams have been in existence since 1936 and have won a Super Bowl, along with two NFL Championships.
Yet even with all the history, McVay is tied for the lead in playoff wins among Rams head coaches with four.
John Robinson also had four in his tenure that lasted from 1983-1991.
McVay sure looks on track to blow by this all-time mark and assert himself as the best head coach in franchise history.
One Goal Remaining
Dick Vermeil is the only coach in Rams history to lead the team to a Super Bowl.
He did so during the 1999 season as Kurt Warner and the Rams offense set the NFL on fire.
Yet the veteran coach decided to retire on top following the win, only to return with the Kansas City Chiefs two seasons later.
His early departure left him with three Rams playoff wins.
Even so, McVay is going to have to reach that NFL mountaintop to assert himself as the best Rams head coach of all time.
He got close in his second season with the team, but was out-coached by Bill Belichick in the Super Bowl.
Trading for Matthew Stafford may be the move that puts McVay over the top and establishes the coach as the leader of a dynasty.
Even Stafford has found new life in Los Angeles as Monday’s win was the first postseason victory of his NFL career.
The crazy thing about McVay tying this record is that he is so young.
The historic franchise has seen a lot of turnover at the head coaching spot and may have finally found someone to lead the team for well over a decade.
