SAPD: Elderly man hit and killed while walking on Bandera Road

A 70-year-old man died after he was hit by a car near a West Side Walgreens, according to San Antonio police.

The man was identified as George Escamilla, who was walking in the road about 100 yards away from a crosswalk near the 1500 block of Bandera Road at around 9:30 p.m., when he was hit by a Dodge Grand Caravan, police said.

The driver told police he didn’t see Escamilla walking in the road. Police said the driver was sober and lucid at the time of the accident, and stayed on the scene until first responders arrived.

Escamilla was transported to University Hospital, where he later died.

No criminal charges are expected for the driver.
