San Antonio state Rep. Diego Bernal points out Abbott, Patrick silence during Capitol siege

Via a tweet on Wednesday, San Antonio state Rep. Diego Bernal pointed out Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick’s silence on social media after a pro-Trump mob stormed the U.S. Capitol.

During and after the siege Wednesday, Texas lawmakers on both sides of the aisle condemned the president’s supporters for storming the Capitol, forcing congressional members into hiding and to flee the building. The lawmakers were in the process of certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s win in November when the mob broke into the building.

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, who led a group opposing the certification of the election results, tweeted for those storming the Capitol to “stop.” U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Houston, told the mob to “stop the bulls**t right now.”

Bernal, who was tweeting about Wednesday’s event, noticed Abbott and Patrick did not release any statements or comments. Both officials have shown their support for Trump in the past.

In November, Abbott released a statement that avoided acknowledging Biden’s victory. Patrick offered $1 million to “incentivize, encourage and reward” people to report of voter fraud in Texas during November’s election. Trump and his supporters have said without evidence that he lost in November because of voter fraud.

In his tweet, Bernal says Abbott’s and Patrick’s “Twitter accounts are SILENT today …”

Neither has tweeted about the Capitol chaos as of Thursday morning.

In the comments of Bernal’s tweet, many tough on the top two elected officials in the state.

“Their silence says SO much about their complicity in an insurrection,” @catmchs said.

“I legit just asked about Gregory. Silent leadership is complicit leadership,” @celiadmorgan wrote.
