San Antonio Spurs Film Study: Luka Samanic

Luka Samanic has been a divisive topic among Spurs fans since San Antonio passed on well-regarded prospects like Brandon Clarke and Matisse Thybulle to draft him 19th overall in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Although the second-year forward spent all but 48 minutes of his first go-round with the Silver and Black warming the bench or in the G-League, his unique skill set for a big man has been clear from day one.

PATFO once again assigned Luka to the Austin Spurs to begin his second season with the franchise, and the 21-year-old flourished in his new role as the undisputed go-to scoring option for head coach Matt Nielson.

Despite notching just six games with Austin, the Spurs recalled Samanic from the Gubble, tossing him into the starting lineup after health and safety protocols left them six players short of their regular rotation.

Luka recorded four points and four rebounds during his ad-lib return to the NBA, so let’s dive into the film to get a better understanding of how the stretch-four performed in his first legitimate minutes of 2020-2021.
