San Antonio reaches vaccine milestone and other news you missed

Good morning, San Antonio! The Alamo City has hit an important milestone in COVID-19 vaccinations. Here’s what you need to know.

More than 75 percent – that’s 1,263,881 eligible San Antonio residents – have been fully vaccinated, according to a news release. That number could increase as 90.7 percent, or 1,516,675 vaccine eligible residents, have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

“We must continue our vaccination efforts. By doing your part, you’re helping keep others safe and healthy,” says Mayor Ron Nirenberg in the news release.

Cases are dropping steadily as San Antonio’s positivity rate has reached 3 percent. Metro Health continues to remind the community to wear a mask indoors regardless of vaccination status, especially as the holidays approach.

“There is hope in this ongoing fight and it will take every one of us doing our part by getting vaccinated and wearing a mask, especially around those who are not yet eligible to be vaccinated,” says Metro Health director Claude A. Jacob.

Here’s what else you need to know for the day.
