San Antonio dog gets ’emotional’ reunion with owner after 7 years

A local dog was reunited with its owner after nearly seven years thanks to the “power of a microchip,” according to a recent Facebook post from Animal Care Services (ACS).

ACS stated in its Monday post that a stray named Honey entered the shelter last week. Employees found a microchip on Honey, showing him registered to someone who adopted him years ago.

ACS called the phone number registered to the microchip, letting the person know they had Honey. Not long after the phone call, a woman showed up to reclaim her pet.

As intake employees walked Honey up to his former owner, the woman burst into tears, fell to her knees and held him in her arms. An employee saw her reaction and asked how long it had been since she’d seen her pet. Her response: “Almost seven years.”

ACS noted the “emotional” reunion was the direct result of Honey’s microchip. At ACS, each pet leaves with a lifetime, registered microchip.

“Because of this, Honey and his mom are now finally able to live their happily ever after,” ACS wrote in its post. “Today’s (Monday’s) #Happytail truly shows the power of a microchip!”
