A month after 43-year-old Beatrice “Bea” Gonzalez was struck down while riding with her bicycling club, her family filed a lawsuit last week suing the alleged drunk driver and a local bar known only as “Unknown Bar X.” On May 12,  the name of that local establishment was revealed by the San Antonio Express-News to be Cervecería Chapultepec.

The Mexican chain is a relative newcomer to the San Antonio, and garnered headlines last year when it opened its first San Antonio location just blocks away from where Gonzalez was killed on April 7. Cervecería Chapultepec serves up a hodgepodge menu including tacos, subs, and tortas along with cocktails, wine, and its namesake beer. It’s best known, however for its one-price food and drinks menu where everything is priced at $2.90.

As the Express-News reports, the alleged drunk driver, Samantha Castillo, was reportedly drinking at the Cervecería Chapultepec at 906 E. Elmira St. on April 7 before Gonzalez was struck by a black sedan in front of Central Catholic High School.

Gonzalez had reportedly rode ahead of the pack and was waiting on the sidewalk when a car jumped the curb and hit her. Castillo, 22, was later charged with intoxication manslaughter.

Gonzalez’s death shocked the cycling community and reverberated across the city. In the days that followed, many gathered in front of the Central Catholic high school to mourn the mother and grandmother whose nickname was Queen B.

“The cycling community showed up for her and for her family and for that we are forever grateful,” Brews and Crews posted in April. “Words cannot express how much Bea will be missed and we ask for your continued prayers as her family and friends navigate this difficult time.”
