San Antonio at Phoenix, Final Score: Spurs pelt the Suns, 129-81

The Spurs started their annual Rodeo Road Trip by dominating the Suns from start to finish.

The Suns were without Devin Booker for the second straight game, and the Spurs were without Kawhi Leonard and Rudy Gay. San Antonio steamrolled the Suns to begin their annual Rodeo Road Trip heading into the All-Star break. LaMarcus Aldridge led all scorers with 23 points and 13 boards before sitting in the middle of the third quarter with a 40 point lead. Obviously, we hope that this is the game that brought the offense together, with the Spurs shooting around 50% for the entirety of the game, including 16-32 from deep.

  • San Antonio jumped out to an 11-0 lead, then built to 28-9 by the end of the first quarter. The Spurs made as many threes (4) as the Suns made field goals in the quarter.
  • Dejounte Murray had to be helped off the court after driving in for a layup and-1 and falling awkwardly. He was grabbing at this left hamstring, but walked on his own power from halfcourt to the bench and shot the free throw before going to the locker room with 15 points in 13 minutes. The replay showed his left ankle buckling as he planted on the drive. PTR will have the update for as soon as we know the severity.
  • The 69-31 lead at half was both the most points scored by Spurs in a first half and fewest by the Suns in any half. Danny Green led the Spurs with 17, LaMarcus Aldridge had 15, and the injured Murray went to the locker room with 15.
  • San Antonio built the lead up to 47 in the third quarter and went into the fourth up 97-50.
  • After a 3 by Patty Mills, the Spurs doubled up the Suns 100-50 early in the fourth, and that lead stayed consistent throughout the remainder of the game, with the Silver and Black eventually winning by 48.
  • Derrick White had 10 points, including being 3-3 from deep in 12 garbage time minutes off the bench.

San Antonio has a much tougher test Saturday night at Golden State; tip-off at 7:30 pm CST.
