Rumor: The Spurs are among teams interested in Kelly Oubre Jr.

The second round of the NBA Playoffs have only just begun, but the free agency rumor mill is already churning. The latest one involving the Spurs includes Warriors small forward Kelly Oubre Jr, per Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo! Sports:

According to league sources, Miami, San Antonio and the New York Knicks are among the teams interested in Oubre in free agency, and it’s easy to see him at his best, fitting into those places.

Oubre’s fit with the Spurs would definitely be interesting. He fills a position of need and would bring much needed scoring to the club, but he’s also a sub-33% three-point shooter for his career, and more outside shooting is something the Spurs desperately need. He also has a bit of a sporadic personality that would need to be reigned in a bit to play for Gregg Popovich, but on the upside, he’s still young, and maybe a shooting coach like Chip Engelland would be just what he needs to reach his full potential.

Drafted 15th overall out of Kansas in 2015, the fifth year forward didn’t have his best season in Golden State, where he averaged 15.4 points and 6 rebounds on just 43.9% from the field and 31.6% from three, but he did have a 29-game stretch from early February to early April where he averaged 17.7 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 47.7 percent overall and 37.4 percent from beyond the arc before his season was cut short by a wrist/hand injury. He made $14.375 million last season, so his asking price will presumably start in the $15-20 million range.

What do you think, Pounders? Would Oubre make a good Spur? (At the right price, of course.)
