Rumor: Kelly Oubre is interested in signing with the Spurs

The Spurs will be looking to fill out their front court in free agency, and one name they’ve been tied to in the past free agent forward Kelly Oubre Jr. After being mentioned as a player they were interested in back in June, the interest is now mutual. According to San Antonio Express News’ Tom Orsborn, Oubre’s camp believes the Spurs would be a good fit for him.

Oubre is notably a sub-33% three-point shooter for his career, and shooting is something the Spurs will be looking for in free agency, but based on the quote above, it sounds like he believes he has more room to improve, and San Antonio is a place that can help him reach his full potential.

Drafted 15th overall out of Kansas in 2015, the fifth-year forward didn’t have his best season in Golden State, where he averaged 15.4 points and 6 rebounds on just 43.9% from the field and 31.6% from three, but he did have a 29-game stretch from early February to early April where he averaged 17.7 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 47.7 percent overall and 37.4 percent from beyond the arc before his season was cut short by a wrist/hand injury. He made $14.375 million last season, so his asking price will presumably be in the $15-20 million range.
