Roberto Martinez reveals Eden Hazard has recovered well from ankle surgery

Eden Hazard has recovered well from ankle surgery but there is no timeframe for when the Belgian will be able to return to action, according to national coach Roberto Martinez.

Hazard had an operation in Dallas last month after fracturing his ankle, following an injury in Real Madrid‘s late February loss to Levante, having only just returned weeks earlier after a three-month layoff.

The 29-year-old had looked set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines because of the injury but the suspension of football due to the coronavirus pandemic means that he could still feature this season depending on when action in La Liga resumes.

‘I know he is recovering well. He is not far from running again and there are no complications’, Martinez said in an interview with several Belgian media outlets.

‘Everything went well with the operation, but you also hope that everything goes well in the four to five weeks afterwards without complications, and there were none.’

‘We know he will return stronger. We were also fortunate, of course, to have his surgery take place just before the coronavirus outbreak’, Martinez added.

‘Otherwise he would not be able to travel or be treated outside of Madrid. I have a positive feeling that Eden will be back soon’.

Hazard secured a big-money move to Real Madrid from Chelsea last summer but has not quite reached the same heights since his move to Spain after being plagued with injury, scoring just once in 15 outings.

The mercurial forward recently admitted he is struggling with home temptations as he admits he is having to watch his diet amid the coronavirus crisis, after being scrutinised for his weight since joining the Galacticos.

Hazard revealed before Christmas that he was 11 pounds overweight when he moved to the Bernabeu and that when he is ‘on vacation he is on vacation’.
