Report: The Spurs to conduct a pre-draft workout with Vrenz Bleijenbergh

The San Antonio Spurs have arranged a pre-draft workout with Antwerp Giants point forward Vrenz Bleijenbergh on July 23.

Vrenz has worked out for the Kings, Thunder, Grizzlies, and Knicks and has plans to work out for Hornets, Hawks, Pelicans, Mavericks, Raptors, and Bucks before the 2021 NBA Draft.

Though the 20-year-old ballhandler wasn’t on the national radar a few weeks ago, his strong showing in a four-day workout event in front of teams in Minnesota last week has helped him gain traction.

The six-eleven playmaker averaged 9.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game for an Antwerp squad that went 20-11 on their way to an eighth consecutive quarterfinal in the Belgian Basketball Cup.

Not only was Bleijenbergh a staple of the Giants roster this season, but he took home Pro Basketball League Rising Star honors, an award given to the best young player in the top-tier domestic league in Belgium.

Bleijenbergh is a projected second-round pick, and his outstanding court vision, shooting potential, and unique two-way positional versatility could make him an intriguing upside swing for PATFO.

The Belgium native was one of 353 early entry candidates for the 2021 NBA Draft. Vrenz remained in the talent pool past last week’s withdrawal deadline and could very well hear his name called on draft day.

The 2021 NBA Draft will take place on July 29 at 7 PM CST at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. ESPN and ABC will televise the first round, and the second round will air exclusively on ESPN.
