Report: The Spurs have conducted a pre-draft workout with Jaden Springer

The San Antonio Spurs have conducted a pre-draft workout with University of Tennessee combo guard Jaden Springer.

Springer has also worked out for the Indiana Pacers, Charlotte Hornets, New York Knicks, and New Orleans Pelicans. He has interviewed with the Toronto Raptors, Los Angeles Lakers, and Phoenix Suns.

The six-four swingman was one of 353 early entry candidates for the 2021 NBA Draft and among the 74 players who participated in the 2021 NBA Draft Combine in Chicago from June 21-27.

At exactly 18 years and 289 days old, Jaden is the third-youngest player in the 2021 Draft Class behind only Josh Primo and Roko Prkačin. And his intriguing upside has him cemented as a potential lottery pick.

Springer averaged 12.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game as a freshman and helped steer a talented Volunteers team to an 18-9 record and a season-high sixth-place ranking in the AP Poll.

The gifted swingman flashed a highly sought-after 3&D skillset during his lone year at Tennesee, posting 1.2 steals per game while shooting 43.5% from beyond the arc on his way to SEC All-Freshman First-Team honors.

The Spurs finished at or near the bottom of the league in virtually every three-point category. And while San Antonio sports a crowded backcourt rotation, nobody has established themselves as a bonafide star.

Springer was a one-and-done candidate when he arrived in Knoxville. And it should come as no surprise he opted to forgo his remaining NCAA eligibility by keeping his name in the draft past the July 7 withdrawal deadline.

The former top high school recruit isn’t the only Tennessee alumnus San Antonio has shown interest in during the pre-draft process. PATFO have also worked out Yves Pons and interviewed Keon Johnson.

The 2021 NBA Draft will take place on July 29 at 7 PM CST at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. ESPN and ABC will televise the first round, and the second round will air exclusively on ESPN.
