Report: The Austin Spurs name Petar Božić head coach

The Austin Spurs have officially announced Petar Božić as their new head coach, per a press release from the organization.

Božić has spent the past four seasons as an assistant coach for the Austin Spurs, helping them to a G League championship in 2018.

The 42-year-old playcaller replaces Matt Nielsen, who PATFO promoted to San Antonio’s bench earlier this month. Božić now becomes the eighth head coach in franchise history.

Božić was an assistant coach for Partizan from 2013 to 2015, winning the Serbian League championship in 2014. He also served as their head coach during the 2015-2016 season.

The Belgrade native also sports a winning pedigree as a player, reeling in a combined 13 Serbian League and Adriatic League championships across eight years as a staple of Partizan’s roster.

The Austin Spurs have also announced David Pilipovich, Nick Saenz, and Jesse Childs as assistant coaches. They join second-year assistant Kenny Trevino, who served on Matt Nielsen’s staff a season ago.
