Raiders win another overtime thriller as Jacobs shreds Seahawks

The Raiders traveled to Seattle, Washington today to take on the Seahawks in an afternoon showdown, and thanks to RB Josh Jacobs, they were able to leave with another dramatic overtime win. Jacobs finished the game with 229 rushing yards, 74 receiving yards, and two touchdowns for a total of 303 yards from scrimmage in the 40-34 road victory.

“He didn’t feel perfect, ya know, but… he is a football player.” head coach Josh McDaniels said about Jacobs’ performance. “I thought he was tremendous throughout (the game).”

The game started off rocky on the first play as QB Derek Carr attempted a pass up the middle to WR Davante Adams which was picked off by S Quandre Diggs. Two plays later, rookie RB Kenneth Walker III ran for a 12-yard touchdown to put Seattle up by seven.

On the next drive, the Raiders offense came to a halt with a scare in Seahawks territory when Carr struggled to get up after taking a hit in the side. QB Jarrett Stidham replaced Carr for only one play. Carr was able to return after talking with McDaniels and hit RB Ameer Abdullah connected for an 18-yard touchdown on third and five, tying the game.

After trading defensive stops, Carr tried to force a ball to TE Foster Moreau which was tipped, resulting in another interception from Diggs. The Seahawks responded with three points after the turnover.

After Seattle got the ball back and extended their lead to 13-7 with another field goal to start the second quarter, the Raiders offense came alive thanks to Abdullah running the ball for 33 yards on the kick return. After a few runs by Jacobs and a catch from Adams, Carr lobbed the ball to a wide open Mack Hollins for a touchdown, giving the Raiders their first lead of the game at 14-13. Hollins can thank Adams for being wide open because Adams was double-covered on the play.

Despite a few positive runs by the Seattle offense, their drive ended after LB Denzel Perryman picked off Smith on the logo, returning it for 24 yards to give the Raiders offense the ball on the Seahawks’ 30 yard line.

McDaniels and the Raiders offense responded quickly with a handoff to Jacobs, who broke the initial tackle attempt by the Seahawks defense and ran it in for a 30-yard touchdown, putting the Raiders up 20-13.

The Seahawks responded well after the interception with a touchdown of their own after seven plays when Smith connected with WR Tyler Lockett for a 35-yard touchdown reception.

Just before the half, the Raiders were able to make their way down the field and kick a field goal to extend the lead to 24-20.

Each team had a chance to score in the third quarter. Seattle scored on their first possession after the half with a 14-yard touchdown run from Walker, and the Raiders tied the game with a 24-yard field goal after being held to a fourth and one.

To begin the fourth quarter, the Seattle offense was picking apart the Raiders defense to what seemed to be an eventual touchdown, but after a fumbled exchange from Smith and Walker, DE Chandler Jones was able to fall on the ball, giving the Raiders the ball back. Despite the effort on a few run plays, the Raiders were not able to capitalize on the turnover.

The Raiders defense seemed to stop the Seahawks and force another field goal, but CB Rock Ya-Sin was called for holding, giving the Seahawks a fresh set of downs on the Las Vegas 32 yard line. The Seahawks took advantage of their new set of downs and took a 34-27 lead after an 18-yard touchdown from Smith to RB Travis Homer.

With 5:37 remaining in the fourth quarter and needing a touchdown, the Raiders put together a drive highlighted by a spectacular one-handed catch by Adams on the sideline for 28 yards. Jacobs was called upon after the catch and ran for 14 yards to pick up another first down.

After another catch from Adams and some more runs by Jacobs, the Raiders were able to tie it up after a beautiful touch pass to TE Foster Moreau for a five-yard touchdown.

The Seahawks got the ball back with 1:54 seconds left and a chance to get into field goal range after WR DK Metcalf caught a pass and rolled out of bounds for a first down. The catch was later overruled by officials. DE Maxx Crosby forced a fourth down with a sack on Smith. The Raiders started their drive with 38 seconds left and elected to run the ball twice, pushing the matchup into overtime.

After winning the coin toss, Carr and the offense made some some plays to get down the field, including a connection between Carr and WR Keelan Cole and a 15-yard run by Jacobs, but on third and one, Jacobs was tackled for a loss. K Daniel Carlson attempted a 56-yard field goal to extend the lead, but his kick sailed wide right.

With the Seahawks in good field position to start their first drive of overtime, they could not overcome the Raiders defense. Crosby came up with a big stop, applying pressure on Smith, forcing an incompletion to avoid the sack.

Carr and company strutted onto the field and handed the ball off to Jacobs who ran straight up the middle for 86 yards and the walk-off touchdown.

The Raiders second-straight win in dramatic fashion will give the team hopes to keep their season on the upward trajectory. Next week they will need the positivity as they face off against their division rivals in the Los Angeles Chargers at home in a game with big playoff implications.
