QPR are considering a move for Manchester City academy coach Brian Barry-Murphy.

QPR are searching for a new manager following Michael Beale’s departure for Scottish side Rangers and Sportsmail understands Barry-Murphy is one name on their radar.

The 44 year-old is currently lead coach of City’s Elite Development squad, a role he was appointed to last summer.

A former Ireland under-21 international and defensive midfielder, Barry-Murphy played professionally for over 20 years, starting out at Cork City before representing the likes of Preston, Sheffield Wednesday, Bury and Rochdale.

He began his managerial career at Rochdale, initially as a caretaker, and impressed due to his style of football and improvement and promotion of young players which brought him to City’s attention.

Barry-Murphy led City’s second string to the Premier League 2 title last season in his first campaign in charge.

With his background in youth football and as an up-and-coming coach Barry-Murphy is of a similar mould to Beale, who had previously worked in the academies at Chelsea and Liverpool before moving into coaching and then managing at senior level.

Following Beale’s exit, QPR chief executive Lee Hoos said: ‘The search for Mick’s replacement doesn’t start now – as a club we are always updating a shortlist of potential candidates so that we are ready for a situation such as this, and we will be moving quickly to make an appointment.

‘Mick helped us move the club forward – and we are grateful for that. The next managerial appointment we make will continue that progression.

‘There is so much to play for this season and I fully appreciate fans’ frustrations right now. Your support has been incredible and the players need your backing now more than ever.’
