Parking at the Pearl will now cost you depending on the lot

Big changes are underway at The Pearl, including paid parking and more green spaces.

The popular mixed-used development announced details of its plan to become a “pedestrian-focused” destination on Thursday. Phase 1 of the plan includes additional outdoor seating and a tiered parking system which will cost visitors depending on which lot they choose.

“As Pearl evolves, we seek to build pedestrian connectivity and increased green space. This evolution requires us to treat parking as an amenity with a tiered approach — from premium to free,” Pearl Chief Marketing Officer Elizabeth Fauerso said in a release.

Pearl said the plans have been “accelerated” by the coronavirus pandemic, which has increased the need for outdoor amenities.

There are nearly 3,000 parking spots at the Pearl, which have all been free for years. The Pearl is partnering with LAZ Parking to usher in the change, which will come with a text-to-pay system. The Stable Lot, which is located off of Avenue B with more than 65 spaces, started charging Nov. 16. Parking will cost between $6 and $10.

The two other descending levels of the parking tier are “standard” and “free.” Spaces will be marked with the coordinating tier.

Parking at the multi-level Koehler Garage will always be free, the Pearl website says.

Some parking, like the lot outside Full Goods, will be eliminated to make room for a green space with seating, similar to area outside Cured and the Bottling Department Food Hall. Work on the transformation is slated to begin in early 2021 with a completion by the fall.

In an effort to make the Pearl pedestrian friendly, a walkway connecting Broadway to the center of the property will also be built in the future.
