Open Thread: The Spurs and Pels have identical records and are both one-point favorites tonight
The rankings may change hourly as the sun sets this evening
I found this interesting:
In nearly 21 seasons under Gregg Popovich, the Spurs have 83 winning streaks of 5+ games and only have 1 losing streak of 5+ games. Incredible.

Another interesting facet of this statistic is that since Gregg Popovich took over head coaching duties in San Antonio, the next highest 5+ game sinning streaks count is held by Los Angeles Lakers with 52.
All right. So we are where we started yesterday, with the Spurs currently holding onto the 6th seed.
Yesterday
The Denver Nuggets lost in Philadelphia giving the Spurs a little more padding in the standings. We may be finally seeing the sun setting on the Mile High City’s hopes for a playoff berth. They are a game-and-a-half outside looking in.
The Memphis Grizzlies also did the Silver and Black a solid by beating the Timberwolves at home by a score of 101 to 93. They slip to the 8th seed bringing the Utah Jazz up to 7th.
Today
Our beloved Spurs take on the Washington Wizards in continuation of the two-game road trip. The Spurs beat the Wiz last week in San Antonio. But for some reason, games won in San Antonio do not accurately project success in games played outside San Antonio. That said, the Spurs are a one-point favorite. A Spurs win would move them a half game above the Pelicans and into the 5th spot, but security on that is guaranteed to last nor more than an hour since the Pelicans play later that night.
The Denver Nuggets are in Toronto fighting their way on the SEGABABA after dropping to the 76ers by 19 points last night. The Nuggets have the hardest schedule finishing out the season and tonight’s results will push their needle more or less where it is going t land.
But the big game as mentioned, the Pelicans host the Portland Trailblazers in New Orleans an hour after the Spurs/Wizards game tips off. Portland is the #3 seed. They pulled off a close one in Oklahoma City Sunday night. Like the Spurs, the Pelicans are a one-point favorite. Pelicans win and they plead the fifth while sending the Spurs back to 6th. A Trailblazers win and the Spurs stay over the Pelicans for another day. Go Blazers!
Finally, the Clippers host the Bucks. I am this close to just ignoring the Clippers altogether, but since they pulled off an impressive victory over the Raptors last weekend, I’m not ready to stick a fork in them yet. But, oh, I would like to soon.
So there you have it. Spurs end the day in 5th or 6th place and still within a game of the Pelicans if not tied.
