Open Thread: Spurs look to clinch a playoff spot tonight in their last home game

One last (guaranteed) chance to see the Silver & Black play at home.

Two days ago

The Spurs took care of business at home against the Portland Trail Blazers. Once again, Manu Ginobili poured on the Grandpa Juice and went for 17 points, 10 of which came in the final frame, thus creating the separation necessary to hold the Blazers down for the win.

You mean Manu needs one more double-digit scoring game to surpass the “Air” apparent?

Head Coach Terry Stotts knew exactly what happened:

Yesterday

The Jazz beat the Lakers so they remain in the 4th seed for another day.

Today

The Thunder travel to Miami to play the Heat at 6:30. Expect the Thunder to fight for their lives as playoff standings slots are still in heavy rotation.

A half-hour later the Timberwolves host the Grizzlies. Minnesota is still battling for a playoff spot and currently hold the necessary tie-breaker against the Denver Nuggets. But don’t count the chickens before they hatch, Memphis has upset the T-wolves at home very recently.

Yet another half-hour later down in San Antonio, the Spurs need to bring home a W against the lottery-bound Kings to clinch a playoff berth. At this point, there is a three-way tie between the Pelicans, Spurs, and Thunder that have them seeded in that order. Let’s keep the home wins streak alive!

Keeping with the 30-minute game staggering, the Nuggets of Denver are hosting the Trail Blazers of Portland. The Blazers have back Damian Lillard and need a win to lock in the 3rd seed. The Nuggets need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. It’s a shame such a talented team might get knocked out of the Western Conference when they could be holding down the 6th seed in the Eastern Conference with the exact same record. But such is life, and this game could either move to solidify the eight teams in the playoffs or keep the 3rd seed available.

At 9:30, the Clippers host the Pelicans. Los Angeles is out, this one is all about the Pels.

Ready for this?

If the Spurs, Thunder, and Pelicans lose AND the Nuggets and Timberwolves win, there will be a five-way-tie for the final four spots. Are you kidding me? Something has got to give!

On a personal note, thanks to all of you who came out to see The Gunslingers play yesterday. It was great to see so many Pounders in person.
