Silver and Black Give Back is providing funding to update a 35-year-old learning space.

Silver and Black Give Back continue funding great local non-profit causes through Operation Renovation. This time they supplied a $75,000 makeover of the Education Center for our own San Antonio Zoo. This is the official press release from Spurs Sports & Entertainment:

The San Antonio Zoo will use the $75,000 Operation Renovation facility grant to renovate the San Antonio Zoo Education Center, which hasn’t undergone renovations since it was first occupied in 1984. The grant will be used to paint the exterior, install new lighting outside the building, and refurbish the interior floors. Over 12,500 children use this facility yearly through the San Antonio Zoo’s conservation program – including 500 children from Title 1 schools. The grant will allow children from low-income families to participate in the Real. Wild. Classroom. Program, while also providing a safe and playful environment for learning.

Located in beautiful Breckenridge Park, the zoo is an essential tourist spot for travelers and locals alike. The zoo is packed with fun for the whole family and their Education Center hosts informative trips year round with zoo staff and volunteers.

Outside the zoo, the Breckenridge Eagle train circumnavigates the park, making stops at the Witte Museum, the south end of the park where Kiddie Park was housed for nearly 90 years, Sunken Gardens Theater, and the Japanese Tea Gardens. Anyone else remember the sky ride?

Incidentally, the San Antonio Zoo will be housing some of Kiddie Park. You can see the new addition starting October 18th.

With all the changes to the city and the park in particular, it’s great that the Zoo will be renovating to continue their stellar services. All thanks to the generosity of Silver & Black Give Back.
