Open Thread: Spurs drop their first game in Salt Lake City

There Spurs kicked off the Summer League action last night in Salt Lake City against the Jazz White Team (there are two Jazz squads- White and Blue).

The Spurs, without the help of Devin Vassell (who was out for conditioning), Tre Jones (Concussion Protocol), and Josh Primo (Left Calf Tightness), dropped their first outing 87-58.

Head Coach Mitch Johnson stated after the game that there is work to be done but getting in your first game is a big step for any NBA player.

In particular, he was speaking of the Spurs latest draftee Joe Wieskamp. Wieskamp had a poor shooting debut scoring on one basket that was attributed due to goal tending.

Even so, the former Hawkeyes was uptempo in his postgame interview. He was positive his shot would come, and thrilled to he suited up with the Silver & Black.

Wieskamp shared that the past few days were a whirlwind, but he was already bonding with Josh Primo and looking forward to playing with him.

Although no timeline was set, Coach Johnson expects to see Primo’s premiere soon.

Tonight the Spurs face the Utah Jazz Blue Team, who were blown out yesterday against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Game starts at 6:00 CST and can be seen on NBATV.
