Open Thread: Rudy Gay, Uninterrupted

What I did was try to prove myself again.

Rudy Gay was interviewed for Uninterrupted. Quite a compelling look into Gay’s life on and off the court:

Gay had a dark period during his Achilles injury that left him unsure of his value. He battled through workouts to prepare himself for the rigors of the NBA and although his recovery during free agency was successful, Rudy Gay knew he needed something new.

Pop called him during free agency asking how he was doing and making his offer, “I know a lot of teams want to offer you more money, I don’t think they’ll offer you this opportunity. I’ll coach you.”

Gay expresses a desire to have longevity in basketball and remarks that “Manu’s still moving good.” Part of his attraction to the Spurs was in extending his career and being coached by Pop.

Currently Rudy Gay is expected to suit up for his 4th game since sitting out 23 games for an injury to his right heel. Although he can decline his player option this summer and test free agency once again, there is a chance he will evaluate his goals and pick the team that has brought him back to the game he loves.

Shout out to grego21 for sharing this in the comments the other day! Great find.
