Open Thread: NBA outlines 2020-2021 COVID-19 protocols for teams

Last Saturday, 30 teams received a memo from the NBA.

The memo, obtained by USA TODAY Sports, included dates for voluntary individual workouts (Nov. 24-30), required individual workouts (Dec. 1-5), group practices (Dec. 6-10), exhibition play (Dec. 11-21) and the start of the regular season (Dec. 22). The league also sent a 139-page document outlining health and safety protocols pertaining to the coronavirus.– from USA Today’s Mark Medina and Jeff Zillgitt

This document is reminiscent of the protocols put into place for the modified quarantined Florida “bubble.”

Starting Friday, players were told to self-quarantine at home until December 2nd with the exception of “essential activities” and traveling to the team facility for COVID-19 testing and individual workouts.

Assuredly, players will be tested with fidelity. Positive test results will result in players being quarantined, but they will be able to return after 10 days.

Workouts, travel, home games, away games, a three-tiered hierarchy involving personnel, All-Star Break procedures, positive-test procedures, and additional pandemic-oriented staffing are outlined in the league document and are required across the board.
