He may not be getting tons of playing time, but the pride of Reading is every bit a Spur off the court.

On Friday night, the San Antonio Spurs made a stop off in Philadelphia – cheesesteaks, a shot of the statue of Sylvester Stallone, and the Liberty Bell.

Another bonus of any Spurs trip to Pennsylvania is how they highlight the community-minded Lonnie Walker IV who grew up in Reading, PA. You can see the thirteen minute video showcasing Walker’s return here.

I’ve had the opportunity on a few occasions to be part of the scrum who interview Lonnie Walker IV. He is down-to-earth, sincere, and admirable. He doesn’t gloat or take the bait when reporters egg him toward negativity.

Here in San Antonio, he steps up and gives to this community just as he does in Reading. Home is where his heart is, and he is all heart.

In the video (a 60 second clip was presented during a break in the game) his mother has a moment so real one can’t help but feel just how genuine this young man truly is.

Did I say young? Yeah, Lonnie is twenty-years-old. Let’s hope he continues his personal growth in San Antonio while advancing his basketball game with the Spurs. A player this centered and focused is bound for great things.
